Polyethylene has a low density and floats on water. But the most important thing is that it also absorbs little water. This means that moisture and sweat are not absorbed into the fabric, but are rather wicked away. In addition, polyethylene is highly resilient and has low wear and tear. It is resistant to acids, alkalis and chemicals, but at the same time permeable to gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide as well as aromatic substances. Fabrics made of polyethylene are tensile, light and yet strong. The material is also frequently used in protective clothing.
